Washington, D.C. – January 9, 2009 – Niles Elber, a member of Caplin & Drysdale has been named a recipient of the prestigious 2009 Nolan Fellowship awarded by the American Bar Association Section of Taxation to a select group of outstanding young tax lawyers across the nation. An attorney with Caplin's tax controversy group, Elber assists clients with their civil and criminal tax problems.

Elber has been with Caplin & Drysdale since 2004. Prior to joining the firm, he worked with a Charlotte, North Carolina-based firm where he advised clients on a variety of tax planning and controversy matters. He has been an active member of the ABA Tax Section for several years, and presently serves as chair of the Subcommittee on Sentencing Guidelines for the Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties Committee.

"The ABA Tax Section has a tradition of cultivating the best in its members so that we can in turn deliver the best value and commitment to our clients and to the profession," said Elber. "I am very honored to receive the Nolan Fellowship and continue that tradition."

One of six awardees, Elber's one-year fellowship will include the waiver of meeting registration fees, a small stipend and assistance with travel to Tax Section meetings.

"The section is fortunate to have an extremely talented and committed group of young tax professionals among our members," said William J. Wilkins, ABA Tax Section chair. "They represent the best and brightest in our organization and the profession."

Elber received his J.D. from Tulane University and LL. M. in tax from New York University.

The Nolan Fellows will be awarded at the ABA Tax Section Midyear Meeting in New Orleans on January 10, 2009.

Elber resides in Potomac Falls, Virginia, with his wife, Sherry and their two children.
