Caplin & Drysdale Alum Confirmed to U.S. Tax Court Judgeship

Congress confirmed the nomination of Professor Albert G. Lauber, a former partner at Caplin & Drysdale for 17 years, to serve a term of fifteen years as Judge for the United States Tax Court.  During his tenure at Caplin & Drysdale, Professor Lauber focused his practice on tax litigation at the trial and appellate levels, tax procedure, taxation of nonprofit organizations, state and local taxation, and constitutional law.  Caplin & Drysdale's President, Scott D. Michel, commented "Al will bring a keen intellect and a thoughtful perspective to the bench.  We congratulate him on achieving this well-deserved distinction."

Professor Lauber is the Director of the Graduate Tax and Securities Programs and a Visiting Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center.  From 1983 to 1988, he served in the U.S. Department of Justice as Deputy Solicitor General and previously as Tax Assistant to the Solicitor General. He was a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun, and Judge Malcolm R. Wilkey, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He earned his B.A. and a J.D. from Yale University and Master's degrees from Clare College and Cambridge University.
