Joseph P. Brothers joined Caplin & Drysdale as an Associate in 2014. He was previously a Summer Associate with the firm. 

Mr. Brothers focuses on two areas: international tax planning and estate planning.

  • He helps businesses and passive investors address various international tax concerns, including Subpart F, foreign tax credits, income tax treaties, the U.S. operations of foreign-controlled businesses, the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA), and transfer pricing.
  • In the area of estate planning, his work centers on assisting high-net-worth individuals and their families stay in compliance with U.S. tax authorities and reduce tax obligations in the U.S.

A native of Canada, he maintains strong personal and professional ties to that country.
