7 Caplin & Drysdale Lawyers Listed as Leaders in Their Field by Expert Guides

July 25, 2017, Expert Guides

In-house counsel and law firm peers have chosen seven Caplin & Drysdale lawyers to appear in the 2017 editions of Expert Guides as leading practitioners in their respective fields. This year’s recipients include:

Private Client/Trusts and Estates
Beth Shapiro Kaufman, Anne J. O’Brien, and Michael G. Pfeifer are members of Caplin & Drysdale’s Private Client Group which counsels wealthy individuals and their families on domestic and cross-border tax and estate planning issues, including the use of trusts, partnerships, corporations, foundations, and wills, and the application of tax treaties. The Group represents domestic and international clients in disputes with the IRS regarding income, estate, and gift and generation-skipping transfer tax. Caplin & Drysdale is one of the few firms with a focus on expatriation, assisting clients in pre- and post-immigration issues.

Tax Controversies
As members of the firm’s Tax Controversies Group, Patricia Gimbel Lewis, H. David Rosenbloom, and Richard W. Skillman advise clients on matters involving IRS examinations and appeals, tax litigation, collections, compliance reviews, and internal investigations. Moreover, the Group partners with clients to develop policies and procedures that help reduce their risks and enhance their business operations.

International Tax/Transfer Pricing
Patricia Gimbel Lewis and her peers in the firm’s International Tax Group represent major U.S.-based multinationals and U.S. affiliates of foreign corporations with respect to resolving cross-border transactions, including international transfer pricing issues, competent authority matters, and other aspects of international taxation. The Group has significant experience helping clients remain in compliance with U.S. and foreign transfer pricing rules, as well as assisting in the event of tax audits and other administrative controversies. A particular emphasis is negotiating advance pricing agreements between taxpayers, the IRS, and foreign tax authorities.

White Collar Defense
Cono R. Namorato and Caplin & Drysdale's White Collar Defense team represent corporations and individuals, including corporate executives and senior public officials, in potential or ongoing criminal tax investigations, sensitive civil IRS examinations, and complex voluntary disclosures. The team counsels companies, including Fortune 500 corporations and worldwide professional firms, in resolving sensitive legal and ethical problems and directs complex internal investigations into financial frauds. The firm also assists tax lawyers and accountants with tax, ethics, and compliance issues.
