Bloomberg Quotes Mark Matthews on Potential Issues for New IRS Commissioner

June 13, 2013, Bloomberg's Daily Tax Report

Bloomberg's Daily Tax Report spoke with Mark E. Matthews concerning the challenges related to selecting the next IRS commissioner.  For more on the story, please visit Bloomberg's website.
Excerpt taken from the article.
"You've got a thankless, complex, under-resourced position," said Mark Matthews, a former IRS deputy commissioner.  "This is high risk, no reward."
Matthews and other tax lawyers are urging Obama to pick a new commissioner who comes from the tax world—which hasn't happened since President Bill Clinton picked [Margaret] Richardson in 1993.
Qualified candidates might be reluctant to take a job full of potential problems, Matthews said, particularly if they want to go to the private sector afterward.
