Eleanor S. VanderMeulen returned to Caplin & Drysdale’s Washington, D.C. office in 2021 as an Associate in the Tax Disputes & Tax Litigation and International Tax practice groups after being a Summer Associate with the firm in 2018 and 2019.

Ms. VanderMeulen’s practice focuses on assisting individuals and corporations in matters relating to compliance with their U.S. tax obligations. She also advises individuals and businesses on a broad range of tax issues with a particular focus on assisting individuals, trusts, partnerships, and corporate entities with responding to and defending against civil IRS audits and examinations.

Ms. VanderMeulen recently represented clients in connection with enacted qui tam provisions enabling private persons to bring claims for potential violations of District of Columbia and New York tax requirements, including cases that arise from allegations relating to a taxpayer’s state of domicile or residence

Highlights

While at the University of Virginia School of Law (UVA Law), Ms. VanderMeulen served as the Editor-in-Chief of Virginia Law Weekly and was a member of the Raven Society. At the 2020 International and European Tax Moot Court Championship she along with her UVA Law team had the highest overall oral argument scores and won the prestigious competition. Ms. VanderMeulen was also Head Commissioner for the North Grounds Softball League while at UVA Law.  Prior to attending law school, she earned her M.S.A and B.S.B.A from Ohio Northern University and worked as an Internal Audit Contractor for a major petroleum company.
