IBFD Publishes Book Honoring David Rosenbloom's Contributions to International Tax

Date: 9/9/2021

IBFD celebrates the work of David Rosenbloom, a longtime Member of Caplin & Drysdale, with the publication of Thinker, Teacher, Traveler: Reimagining International Tax to mark his 80th birthday. With the help of 90 contributors this festschrift pays tribute to Mr. Rosenbloom and the significant contributions he has made to international taxation and its community, both academic and professional. Each of the chapters, 52 in total, are authored by either a close friend, colleague, peer, or former student who span the generations and are all part of his deep global network including three Caplin & Drysdale attorneys. Peter Barnes wrote chapter five "The Morality – or Immorality – of International Tax Planning" and Jonathan Brenner and Josiah Child wrote chapter nine "Wouldn’t It Be Nice: Reimagining US Taxation of Outbound Investment."

Mr. Rosenbloom rejoined the firm in 1981 after serving as International Tax Counsel and Director of the Office of International Tax Affairs in the US Treasury Department from 1977 to 1981. He has also served as a Tax Policy Advisor for  the OECD, US AID, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank in Eastern Europe and the Baltic countries, the former Soviet Union, Senegal, Malawi, and South Africa. Mr. Rosenbloom has consulted with and advised foreign governments and international organizations on international tax matters, and served as an expert witness in international tax disputes in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, and Australia. He has also written extensively on international and comparative tax topics. Mr. Rosenbloom most recent writings discuss the intersection of U.S. tax reform, U.S. tax treaty policy, and the OECD Project on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting. He has been recognized as a Senior Statesmen by Chambers USA since 2014 and listed among "Leading Lawyers" by The Legal 500 for his work with clients in International Tax and Tax Controversies.
