Michel  spoke with Tax Notes concerning the IRS Criminal Investigation Division’s struggle to focus on pure tax cases that require the unique skills of the division instead of cases involving other crimes. Mr. Michel notes that "while it's important that the IRS pursue identity theft and narcotics cases, and cases like FIFA are high visibility, all of this is increasingly at the expense of general tax enforcement."
