U.Va. Opens Innovative Ruth Caplin Theatre

April 29, 2013, Caplin & Drysdale

On April 27, 2013, the University of Virginia honored Ruth Caplin, wife of firm founder Mortimer M. Caplin, in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the brand new Ruth Caplin Theatre.  The state-of-the-art facility was built thanks in part to a $4 million donation from the Caplins who are alumnus of U.Va.'s College of Arts & Sciences and School of Law.  Mrs. Caplin earned a degree in the arts from Skidmore College and later adapted a British novel into a screenplay, "Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont," which was made into a movie that won "Best Film in Japan" in 2010.  "We hope this will ensure that students at U.Va. will make art not only a part of their course work, but a part of their lives," said Mr. Caplin.

The Ruth Caplin Theatre was designed by renowned architect William L. Rawn, III, who designed The Music Center at Strathmore and other major public buildings and cultural facilities.
